  1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are sent by a server to a user’s device (generally to the internet browser). Cookies allow the web server to memorize information for subsequent use during the same visit to the site (“session” cookies) or on a subsequent visit (“persistent” cookies).
Cookies facilitate browsing of the site, making it possible to memorize the pages visited and other specific information, such as the most frequently-visited pages, connection errors etc.
Cookies are stored by the browser on the device used (computer, tablet or smartphone) according to the preferences set by the user.
In many cases, the browsers (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari etc.) are configured in such a way as to accept cookies automatically. The user can modify the pre-set configuration in order to disable or cancel cookies, but this may negatively affect the operation of certain parts of the site. To utilize the site in the most efficient way possible, therefore, the user should configure his browser to accept these cookies.
In addition, cookies from other sites may appear on the user’s browser (so-called “third-party” cookies). These are created directly by those who manage the third-party sites and utilized for their specific purposes.

  1. Types of cookies

Cookies fall into two categories according to their characteristics and the way in which they function:

a) “Technical cookies”These are necessary when browsing a website and using its various features, such as to display pages correctly or access reserved areas. If these cookies are disabled, such functions cannot be used.

Technical cookies are not used for other purposes, and may be subdivided into two categories:

  • “session” cookies, which are used for normal browsing and utilization of the site;
  • “function” cookies, which allow the user to select from a number of parameters when browsing the site (e.g. the language); these parameters improve the user experience.

b) “Performance” cookies”gather information concerning the efficiency of the responses given by a web site to the user’s requests. This information remains anonymous, and is intended exclusively to improve the efficiency of the site. For example, they record which pages the user visits most frequently as well as any errors or delays in delivering the web pages.

c) “Profiling” cookies are designed to create user profiles, and are used to send online advertising messages tailored to the preferences expressed by the user when browsing the web.

This site does not utilize profiling cookies.
